The cheat’s Tres Leches

As a graduate student with an extremely sweet tooth, but unfortunately with little time to do all the cooking at home least to say baking for cakes and goodies, I think I have just found the best way to cheat in making Tres Leches – a type of cake with 3 milks. Hurray!

  • Supermarket bought madeira cake (or something light)
  • A can of evaporated milk
  • A can of condensed milk
  • A cup of single cream
  • A teaspoon of vanilla essence
  • Two teaspoons of rum (optional, if you want your cake boozy)

Basically, mix all the liquids together. Place the cake in a deep-ish dish. Using a fork, carefully prick the cake all over. Pour the milk mix over and spoon the sauce over (so the whole idea is soaking the cake with the milk mix).

Serve with freshly whipped cream, some fruit slices or ice cream. Instant sweet comfort. Ahhhhh….
