Genesis by Sebastiao Salgado

10 November 2007

Sebastiao Salgado is a man of immense talent in capturing life, nature and beauty, in monochrome. His photographs touch me like deeply, and very effectively employed when he used them to raise awareness of the plights of many in third world countries, of refugees, of the destroyance of mother nature.

His latest project is entitled Genesis, which will be featured in The Guardian over the next few weeks. The first stop of this epic journey would be Galapagos Island. Totally apt given this was where Darwin refined his theories of evolution. The birth place of what we learn today of evolution, and genesis bearing the meaning of origin, I am really looking forward to the series. To see how Salgado interprets what he saw through his lens, and to recapture the magnificence that was cherished by Darwin.

Have a look at this special report and see if you like what you see.
