Science Connection
10 March 2008
Listen up all the single scientists out there - check out this “meeting” site just for you! Not a bad idea, since it’ll save one the hassles of the typical online dating or speed dating tricks. Mind though, it’s not free, but at least you know the people you meet here are going to be brainy.
Not that this is to be used solely as a scientists dating site anyway.
You may never know when you’ll find a friend (or a few) through the site whom you can share research ideas with, and science is a rather small world that requires networking in order to keep abreast of the latest research news and endeavours. Or even nicer, you find friends who are attending the same conference of which later you can do some travelling together and save some road tripping costs?
And they would also most likely to be understanding about potentially long distance contacts. Afterall, this is the world where research takes us all over the place.
Ps: on a second thought, out of curiosity, I did a quick search to see the samples, some of them are looking for someone to have kids rightaway. Shouldn’t this be scary?
Are you surprised?

Finally catching up with some news reading, and apart from more articles about Heath Ledger, the presidential election coverage, the ups and downs of global shares this week, this is what I came across.
Should anyone be surprised at all to read about the amount of lies that Bush and his administration team had made to the public?
I certainly am not.
Regardless how they try to take cover and justify that the information was correct at the time of statements, I couldn’t help by being cynical about the truth behind this. These information are now “intelligence flaws”. I wonder why… perhaps it has something to do with the crazy terrorist-like tactics that they use to extract information? You know, the whole people-will-say-anything-to-escape-torture and hallucinations-following-solitary-confinement theories, among many.
Isn’t it time to learn from the past mistakes instead of repeating it over and over? Urgggh…
Are we judging too quickly?

It is everywhere in the news today - the death of Heath Ledger.
However, without a full story of what is really happening, already unsavoury headlines are popping up. From “Mysterious death of troubled star in his New York apartment” to “Heath Ledger dies battling drugs and depression”. And all these even before the initial autopsy results was announced (which by the way is inconclusive).
I, for one, doesn’t know him personally. What I have known of him through the big screen had been positive impressions, even with his role in Brokeback Mountain. So to be frank, until official reports are out, I am not passing any judgements. Not that it’s mine to pass in the first place.
But I do dislike the way the media circus is circulating articles on how depressed and unbalanced he was, and abusing drugs etc. Seriously how true are these “insider information” from “sources close to his family” and how much among them are plain exaggeration? Or slandering of someone’s character?
The worst of it all is, there are thousands who believe every word written so far and quickly write him off as another unappreciative man who should have seen this coming for dabbling in vile drug habits.
Seriously people, stop.
